Make writing online articles worth it – Make them tweetable in just 10 easy steps!

Here’s the problem.

We work like ants to generate online content, whether it be articles, newsletters, reports, blog posts etc. and how much time in comparison do we spend making sure that our great content actually gets ‘out there’ and read?

What would you say your ratio is? 80/20 maybe 90/10?

I hate to break it to you but even if your content is great, it’s pretty useless unless people read it.

You don’t have to be a social media expert

Now, I know we’re not all social media experts and quite often we might be under time pressure to generate multiple articles in one day…but that’s no excuse!

All content and no promotion is not a fun game to play.

The good news is that you don’t have to be a social media expert to boost the chances of your online articles being read. If fact, there are some really quick things that you can do, like inserting a ‘Tweet Me’ link into every article you write, that can help.

By adding just this one link, you can make your online content so much more ‘spreadable’, I recommend that you do it for every online article you publish.

You’re simply making it far easier for your existing readers to promote your great work for you!

So do you want to learn how can reap a lot of readership through very little effort? Then keep reading as I walk you through, how to make your online articles tweetable in 10 easy steps (CLICK TO TWEET THIS POST)

How to make your online articles tweetable

Step 1 Publish your article online so it has a URL

Step 2 Go to the bottom of the page at https://bitly.com/ and insert the full URL into the text field available, then click the ‘shorten’ button.

Step 3 Copy, paste and save the shortened link that https://bitly.com gives you

The shortened link will appear at the bottom of the page, underneath the text field where you inserted the full URL. I recommend that you save the shortened link in a new document and as you will need it again in a few moments.

Step 4 Read through your article and choose a sentence or phrase that you would like your readers to Tweet.

You only have a maximum of 140 characters to use (including your shortened link) so choose wisely!

Step 5 Go to www.clicktotweet.com

Step 6 Complete the text box on the right hand side of the www.clicktotweet.com homepage.

Copy and paste your chosen sentence or phrase that you would like to Tweet into the text box AND the shortened link from www.bitly.com that you saved before (it’s important not to forget this part).

Add some additional text if necessary to make your Tweet sound as attractive as possible.

Often commands and call to actions can work quite well e.g. Check out this great article on (insert the title of you article)!

Step 7 Click on the ‘Generate link’ button below the text box.

Step 8 Copy, paste and save the URL link that it generates for you

This new URL is likely to begin with http://clicktotweet.com/. I recommend that you save this link in a new document and as you will need it again in a few moments.

Step 9 Insert a hyperlink into your article using the ‘clicktotweet’ URL

Hyperlink your chosen text with the ‘clicktotweet’ URL.

For example, if you have chosen to Tweet the title of your online article, you might like to add a sentence to the beginning or end of the article saying, ‘Click to Tweet this article here’ and hypelink the word ‘here’ with the URL.

Or if you have chosen to Tweet a powerful sentence from for article, you might like to write ‘TWEET THIS’ after the sentence, hyperlinking these words with the URL.

Step 10 Save your updated, tweetable article and wait and see how people start sharing!
